"Rosie" is a five song EP I wrote throughout the spring of 2020. I have increasingly felt more and more distant from my musical endeavors that I identified with throughout my 20s, and as a result, I made a conscious effort to make 2020 the "Year of Music" in my life and try to re-ignite the passion I have for making songs. Rosie is the product of my attempt to meet that challenge.
The album's main theme is that of the title - my 2003 Mexi Fender Fat Strat "Rosie". Rosie found me in a Guitar Center in South Jersey and was bought for me by my Dad. She has been with me throughout my musical life, through various bands, breakups, heartaches, joys, parties, lonely nights, schools, and moves from state to state. She has heavy gauge strings and the bridge is starting to rust a bit.
Rosie is the North Star of this album, its guiding light. Every song was written and composed on her. The chimey clean tones and the growl of the pickups, the lead tones and the rhythm sections, all born out of my understanding and relationship I have built with the instrument over the 20 years I've known her. Aside from a few light bass tracks, a few tone pedals, and my voice, she is the only instrument on the record.
The album was coincidentally composed during the quarantine of 2020 due to COVID-19, and as a result, the songs tend to deal with themes of self-care, domiciled love, guilt about one's health and blessings, and emotions that transcend four walls.
